This kit will require a lot of time and patience, but it will be rewarding in the long run. I think that it might take me over 300 hours to finish. some other reviews state that the cutter does not work and to use a pair of small cutters. The cutters crimp the wood on the ends. More than one acetate sheet is going to be needed fo finish because the sheets can get bent up a little through handling. The glue is the standard white glue type. My only complaint is the clips that hold the paper to the backing board do not hold the sheets firmly enough. They can move around a little with handling. One other thing: ALL pieces have to be cut. Even the longest ones in the plans call for a small cut off to get to the final length. But enjoy if you have the time.

I had a great time putting this “country house” together until I realized that I was missing several hundred microbeams. I couldn’t even start the rear ell of the house. I’m very disappointed. Matchitecture never responded to my concerns. It would be a great product if there were enough pieces to actually finish it.

I have just begun to get into this hobby craft field but have been working on my project for a couple of months now. My review is not necessarily about this kit but about the process of building these models. Here are my recommendations to make things easier and also to speed things up a little. After reading other reviews I found two tips that I thought would be a big help. Many reviews stated that the cutter supplied with the kit is not the easiest to use, well that was no understatement. I had an awful time trying to get straight cuts and there is no guide to assist with angle cuts either. One review I read recommended a “Micro Shear Cutter” to replace the original cutter so I ordered one thinking that would solve the problem. That turned out to not work because it crushed the ends of the sticks and they looked and worked awful. So after a lot of searching I found a great item that works perfect. It’s called a “Precision Cutting Tool” by Fourmost Products and can be found on Amazon. It is built fairly sturdy and heavy enough with rubber feet that it stays put on the table. It cuts using standard single sided razor blades so the cuts are clean and precise. Also has an adjustable miter slide so cutting angles is easy. I used a clamp and a piece of wood to make a “stop” so I could cut a bunch of the same lengths without measuring and marking each stick individually, what a big help that was. Highly recommend this product http://www.amazon.com/Precision-Brand-FOR151-Cutting-Tool/dp/B0006O5SHK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1435432937&sr=8-1&keywords=precision+cutting+tool The other thing that helps me is changing out the acetate sheets with each new page as they get messy with dried glue. A great solution for this is to buy a package of document protectors at the store. These work great because you just slide the pattern in and tape the corners down. Then you don’t have the plastic clips in the way either. When you are done with one side just pull out the pattern and turn over the document protector and slide the next pattern in and your set to go again. These kits are a lot of fun if you have patience. They are very time consuming and take time to complete but well worth it for someone with lots on time on their hands. I don’t recommend these kits for kids! Razor blades and patience just don’t go well them.
