I do a LOT of crocheting. The colors in this was just perfect for the item I was making. If you are a novice at crocheting or this is the first project you are doing working with size 10 crochet thread, this stuff is a bit fussy. I found that it had a serious twist to it. I had to take extra time to untwist it, but it was worth it. The project turned out just beautiful.

I love this sparkling thread but it can be a bit tricky to use. The metallic filament is like a thin plastic tinsel thread wrapped around the core thread and it comes up in spots. That won’t be obvious once the finished piece is blocked and stiffened- but it can snag on a smaller hook size pretty easily. It’s also more twisted than regular Aunt Lydia’s thread- probably from the plying the metallic filament on it. So it will twist when you’re working with it.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the balls of this thread have less thread than the standard balls of Aunt Lydia’s size 10. A standard ball has about 400 yards of thread- these have about 100. Despite what the description says- this is a cotton thread- 88% cotton and 12% metallic.
The pearl has a softly iridescent effect and it glitters in a subtle way that works great for snowflakes, stars and other decorative pieces. I like to stiffen using white glue mixed with water which adds a lot of shine, and dries clear enough to show the filament well. I recommend a size 6-8 steel hook.

I did not like this crochet thread. I found it difficult to work with. The metallic thread separates too easily from the cotton thread making it difficult to form an even stitch. Too bad because the thread would probably make some pretty ornaments.
