I’ve read advice and arguments that one must buy a $300 – $400 reel because it will stand up to the physical stresses when you hook that really big one, the fish of a life time. For crying out loud. I fish for trout in streams in the Sierras of California. Am I supposed to think an Atlantic Salmon or a Steelhead is lurking around, waiting to strip the gears in my reel? A fly reel holds your line. That’s it. It’s mechanical features are pretty basic because that’s all you need. I use the Cahill #2/3 all the time on my 6’6″ $24 fiber glass fly rod. I like the looks of that smaller size. And he reel is reliable and durable. Once I fell while climbing over a boulder and the reel hit the dirt real hard. I soaked it in the stream to get the dirt particles out and it continued to function as it had before. You don’t need to deplete you bank account to be a good fly fisherman. Happy angling.

bought this reel about three months ago and i am very happy with it, for a cheap reel it has features only a more expensive reel has. the disk drag is redicously smooth and it weights next to nothing even with line and backing.CRYSTAL RIVER CR-0001A CAHILL FLY REEL #3,4,5
