This review is from: Designer Crochet: 32 Patterns to Elevate Your Style (Paperback) I just got Designer Crochet in the mail, so I don’t know as yet how the patterns work up, but I know I always appreciate reading what kinds of patterns I’m going to find in a book. As far as quality goes, all the pieces look like a lot of thought and care went into them. There are stitch charts and construction diagrams, which look pretty helpful. As far as fashion goes, I feel it’s a bit of a mixed bag. Some patterns are very cute. I especially like the sweater dress/tunic section, which feels classic but updated/ modern. I got the book when I saw the asymmetrical hoodie, which looks like a neat piece. The cable trio looks fun to wear, the boho skirt is very cute, and a couple of the cardigans are simple and classic enough that I might wear them with more trendy pieces to look up to date. The rest of the pieces, though, feel a bit outdated. All in all, considering how much a pattern costs, and that I like 5 patterns enough to make them without hesitation, it seems like a good value. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? | Comment (1) Reply 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful Best book I have ever took a chance pre ordering, April 23, 2015 By Amazon Customer – Verified Purchase(What’s this?) This review is from: Designer Crochet: 32 Patterns to Elevate Your Style (Paperback) The book first has many charts for conversation and pattern charts and graphs. The size choice for all of the clothing makes me cry in joy. I don’t like all the patterns but you know what that’s normal for everyone cause everyone is different. There are in my taste some amazing articles of clothing like the hoody and the cabled dress/tunic I seriously have no complaints for this book because it has everything in it and even helps you sew things together and such. It is an amazing book I have never seen anything like it and wish and pray there will be more like and made like it. The maker of this book can be very very proud and I thank you very much for the size differences the charts and continuous help that is given through this book. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? | Comment (1) Reply 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful Excellent find!, June 6, 2015 By M. Staley (US) – This review is from: Designer Crochet: 32 Patterns to Elevate Your Style (Paperback) This is an excellent pattern book. It has a variety of styles, all garments and a few accessories, all well photographed in a variety of affordable and well-known yarns. The patterns are detailed and clear and presented in a logical, consistent and approachable format. Charts are included for stitch patterns and tips are provided. The schematics are also detailed and very handy. There is very little shaping in these garments, which, after thinking it over, is actually a plus. The crocheter is able to use the schematics to advantage, adding shaping to suit HER needs/desires for the garment. I’m doing this already with one of the vest patterns, and it’s working out great. The majority of these patterns are also worked in sport or sock weight yarn, which makes for a more sophisticated, lightweight fabric. I would like to see a companion edition for men – as the author is a man, I was rather surprised that there were only women’s garments featured, though the variety of styles is great. I love the majority of the patterns and would make well over half of them (which is a rare find, for me!). However, I would love some nice sweater and vest patterns to make for the men in my life. Another, more significant downside, to the patterns featured is that they are all worked in pieces. This traditional construction is fine, I suppose, but crochet lends itself so well to working in the round, I wonder why the designer didn’t use this technique more. Nevertheless, I am becoming quite a fan of Shannon Mullett-Bowlsby’s work and was absolutely thrilled when I got this book. It is an excellent find, and I would highly recommend it to any crocheter, whether they are a beginner or more advanced in experience. There is something here for everyone, and the patterns are easily adjusted to suit one’s taste and preferences. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? | Comment Reply Leave a comment Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
