I have crocheted since I was 12, and this is easily the best thread on the market. I almost gave up making doilies because the thread was either too slick, rough on my fingers, or tangled. This thread solved all those problems. I am sure you can find less expensive thread somewhere, but the price difference won’t be significant. There is a LOT of thread wound on these small balls, so don’t be thrown off by the appearance. It has a wonderful sheen, is strong, and I believe will stand the test of time. I have crocheted several items that have won blue ribbons with this thread. Don’t spend time thread crocheting heirlooms without using this thread!

This DMC crochet cotton is perfect for both crocheting and knitting projects. I’ve used it for knitted lace projects, and the results have been beautiful. It’s worth the small extra cost for the DMC brand in order to get the wider color range that is available. The colors are consistent, but be sure to order enough of the same color dye lot for your entire project to avoid the slight variations from dye batch to dye batch.
The thread comes in compact balls that are easy to store and from which to work. Here’s a hint to make working from the balls even easier: If you prop the ball up through an upright peg such as the center post of a large empty spool of quilting or serger thread, you can work from the outside of the ball without the thread tangling or the ball rolling across the floor or table.

Is there a thread better than Cebelia? If there is I haven’t found it after 50 years of making doilies. Some are similar and just as good but Cebelia is still the Queen of doilies.
