I ordered this for my dad who has been using a battered plastic set for going on 40 years. My two year old has been fascinated with the plastic figures and, well, the ancient plastic is giving up. I wanted to get him nice metal playing pieces and was disappointed at the high prices i was finding. This set is certainly affordable and has a nice look but is on the small side. You can see the seams from the mold on the pieces (they are not finished as well as I’d like). The board is attractive enough, but for the finicky buyer, you can see the slight irregularities. It wasn’t a deal breaker for me. It’s a decent set for affordable price. If you are very particular, you will need to spend a whole lot more money.

I’m very disappointed in the quality of these chess pieces. The wood is fine, and it seems solid, but the metal pieces still had the caste marks on them! For how much this set costs, I was sorely disappointed in what seemed like low quality pieces. When looking at the picture, you don’t see that the pieces are hap-haphazardly made without evening out the caste-lines.
Therefore, when I decided to return it and explained my reason to the seller, I was hoping they would cover the return shipping. However, since they didn’t because the return wasn’t due to any damage during shipping or etc, I was responsible for the return shipping. The return shipping cost me $14 and that means I just spent $14 on a big disappointment. Now, I have to go find a nice quality chess set to replace this (it was a gift for my husband’s birthday) and instead of starting at $0, I’m starting at -$14.

i love this chess set its great and the wood is awsome detail..im planning to buy some new metal chess pieces..i saw at amazon…i recommend this for those who like playing chess..great xmas gift too..
