It kinda bugs me that the questionnaire above asks me how I rate “this toy”. This is NOT a toy. It’s precision made radio controlled flying model airplane. And It’s NO toy. Nor is it for beginners. Moving on…
This plane is just downright AWESOME! It takes VERY little time to get her put together and out to the field. A couple of VERY important things are that:
1) PLEASE fully read and follow the manual!!
2) You MUST balance the plane. The plane must be adjusted to it’s center of gravity (CG) which is easily done by moving the battery back and forth on it’s tray to get the plane to balance on it’s CG. You may use a marker to mark where the battery should sit.
3) The rudder and elevator servo arms should be switched. They are two different lengths and the plane benefits from having more elevator throw.
4) One minus is that these planes are notorious for the firewall coming loose. Simply remove the cowl by removing the tape that holds it on. The firewall pulls away easily. Epoxy or Gorilla Glue it back on. Replace the cowl and tape.
5) Inspect the landing gear regularly to ensure it’s not coming loose. If it does just use a little Gorilla glue to hold them in their slots.
These issues IMO are VERY minor and do not detract from the value or performance of this plane. Just about all RC planes have their little “issues” as you may find on RC enthusiast websites. I’m just giving some straight up advise to assist the buyer in having a good experience with this plane.
The flys very much like a ParkZone T-28 but much more maneuverable and a little faster. She has NO bad tendencies and is super fun to fly. The foam used in it’s construction is superb. Very tough and durable. I haven’t had the need to repair mine but I would imagine that if there were to be an incident she could be easily repaired with epoxy or some foam safe CA. I would highly recommend this plane as a good second plane for and intermediate pilot. The manual calls for a 1250mah 3S LiPo but I’ve been flying her with a 1300mah 3s 30C LiPo and she performs perfectly. She really scoots with a high discharge rate battery! I would recommend a Transmitter like the Spektrum DX6i to be able to adjust the planes exponential. I’ve mine with a DX5e with dual rates and have no problems. Adjusting the expo a bit would be beneficial but not necessary. Just be gentle on the sticks until you get to know how she will react to your inputs.
The plane is durable, a hoot to fly and the price is more than fair for a receiver ready plane. You get a very nice aircraft to add to your fleet. GO FOR IT!! I guarantee that you won’t be disappointed with this little gem!

I don’t usually write reviews unless I had a terrible experience and want to warn others. The Great Planes Super Sportster RXR is exactly the opposite.
This is my first plane in over 5 years off from flying, and it’s perfect. I have mine bound to a DX6i transmitter, and with the dual rates set up, it’s a gentle and forgiving enough plane to teach my girlfriend how to fly using a buddy box setup. With the dual rates set to high, it’s a screamer! I’ve owned three sportsters now, the original EP brushed sportster, the original EP brushless sportster, and now this one. I was a bit hesitant about buying a foam plane vs wrapped balsa like the other planes, but as soon as she’s airborne, I can’t tell for a second that it’s a foam plane.
I am using 1300mah batteries, with two marked positions for the battery to achieve the ‘e-z’ CG and a sportier more aft CG.
I totally recommend this plane to beginners and experts alike!

I have over 10 other RC planes, but this is by far my favorite. I agree 100% with everything the other review said. It has NO bad tendacies. It flies like it is on rails and it only needs about 6 feet of runway before it rockets up into the air! It can do tons of trick moves all day long. It comes with very high quality servos, ESC and motor already intsalled. It is the perfect size for flying in a back lot. The glide slope is awesome, it will land itself with hands off the radio practicaly. I have gotten to fly super slow, almost to a crawl where you can’t figure out what is keeping it from falling out of the sky. But she will also fly as fast as you can keep up with! The other review touched on the only 2 minor negatives. The firewall on mine was glued very well, but the motor mount was made of some thin “pot” metal. but if you don’t nose dive you should be fine. Also if you have a “hard” landing the landing gear does tend to come loose, but like he said, you can just epoxy or gorrila glue them back in.
I have had this plane for a couple months and probably flown it 50 times! and not a scratch on it because it is so easy to control and land. I even connected an HD camera to the bottom of it and filmed my neighborhood! If I could only own 1 plane (instead of 10) this would be my choice – NO QUESTION ABOUT IT. The reason is because of its wide versitility… this plane can do it all expect for extreme 3D moves. I also have used 1300 mah lipos in it and it balances perfect with the lipo almost all the way up to the front (when flying without the colwing and nose cone). I flew yesterday with an 1800 mah lipo it flew great!! there is a huge area for multiple sized lipos. I just love this plane so much that I bought 2 of them, so i have a backup (if/when) I crash this one.
