L. Felsinger (Sheboygan, WI United States) – Verified Purchase(What’s this?) This review is from: Guillow’s 1903 Wright Brother Flyer Laser Cut Model Kit (Toy) Purchased model to help 11 year old grandson w/school project. He picked Wright Bros and needed to do a poster about something. He picked the air plane, so I got to re-live my childhood. I had two work stations and we both built half, there were two wings, two elevators, and two rudders. He got to see me do mine, and then I helped him with his. We did it all together, he even tissue papered his half. Great bonding, and he was very proud of his airplane. When he made his poster, he really knew what a rudder was for and adjusting it would yield what results. He learned big time, how to make angled wood joints, how to use some glue instead of gobs of glue. I think a lot of learning in the 3D. Looking at the 1D templates, then the finished pictures and visualizing how to put it together. Dixon (USA) – Verified Purchase(What’s this?) This review is from: Guillow’s 1903 Wright Brother Flyer Laser Cut Model Kit (Toy) This is the MOST beautiful static model of the Wright Brothers Flyer you can get anywhere at any price!!! However …it is NOT a TOY and NOT for children nor anyone else, that is not an experienced model airplane builder …of the OLD SCHOOL. That means balsa wood construction layout over plans and mastery of silk-span covering techniques. Even today’s model masters do not regularly use these techniques because heat shrink covering has completely replaced silk, tissue and silk-span paper covering in all current flying models. However, if you are willing to learn, and willing to make mistakes and start over a few times, or call on a friend of the “Old School” for help … not doing it, but watching over your shoulder and tell you what to do … the building of this model will leave a masterpiece your great grandchildren will proudly display on a string from the ceiling, or in a glass case, long after you are gone. If however they play with it as a TOY ..it WILL BE GONE …in seconds!! Enjoy this as a JOURNEY into forgotten skills and times of aircraft construction and history!!! Guillow has always … ALWAYS made great model airplane kits …and this is one of their finest….if you have the love and patients it will REQUIRE. AND if you have more than one grandchild … the first one will be the learning project for YOURSELF !!! They are priced reasonable enough to buy 4 or 5 for ALL the children/grandchildren with eyes to the skies and hopes/dreams of Air Force or Astronaut careers. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? | Comment Reply 15 of 16 people found the following review helpful Lots of Fun, December 9, 2011 By Ernest King “Ernie” (Provo, Utah) – Verified Purchase(What’s this?) This review is from: Guillow’s 1903 Wright Brother Flyer Laser Cut Model Kit (Toy) This is a fun item to build. It has a lot of delicate parts and many pieces that you need to make from stock wood. It is educational because the build is just the way a real airplane wing is made. The fuselage is way different from today’s fuselage construction, but it is informative as to the first flight. All in all it is fun to build for something to do in spare time and it will hang from the ceiling of my workshop. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? | Comment Reply Leave a comment Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
