These are nice needles. — I’ve added a bunch of product pictures for those (like me) who’d like more detail about what they’re buying. The needles don’t have the slickest surface; the finish is like a new stainless steel counter-top. This makes the needles more grippy (less fast) so the yarn needs more of a tug than it would on nickel-plated needles. The joins — where cable meets needle — are particularly well done. I have several kinds of Knitter’s Pride interchangeable needles, plus different brands of fixed circular needles, and these have the cleanest join between needle and cable I’ve encountered so far. If I run my fingers along the join, I can barely detect the point where needle and cable meet. Yarn doesn’t detect it either so no fibers catch. The cable also swivels within the barrel so the cable doesn’t get twisted into loopy tangles. I’ve only found a few problems. Whereas the join is smooth, sometimes the cable itself seems to have some rough spots, tho I’m not sure if this is a manufacturing problem or damage to the cable at some point. The other issue is that the swivel action isn’t as loose as I’d like. Perhaps the small barrel diameter and close join doesn’t allow a lot of play. This review is from: Hiya Hiya Sharp Interchangeable Needle Set- 5 inch tips: SMALL sizes (Kitchen) I do all my knitting on circulars, both straight and in the round. And I have in my collection Addis (which are great), KnitPicks (now my 2nd best), and others I probably should send to the Goodwill. So I hesitated buying these even though the reviews I had read rated these at the top. Wow — can’t believe how pliable the cables are, and how they NEVER get twisted! As soon as I got them I started on a vest that I adapted to knit in the round from the bottom up to the armholes. Can’t imagine going back to my old circulars. I have a granddaughter just out of college who knits — should I give her my old Addis or just start her out with a set of these Hiyas? I knit socks on 2 circulars, so now I need to get Hiyas for those projects. Or maybe I’ll try doing them on one long circular. As an experienced knitter, I’ve learned that, using the best yarn I can afford and the best tools available, results in the best outcome. This is an excellent set for most knitters’ needs. They are sharp enough for lace but work well on regular projects as well. The needles have never come loose from the cables (which has happened with many other types of interchangeables) and because the cable swivels on the base there are no awkward kinks. The joins are very smooth so the knitting slides easily. If you do a lot of small circular work you might want to get the 4″ needles, the 5″ are a bit awkward with the shortest cable.
