I needed to rack some wine so I bought a pair of used carboys off craigslist. When I got them our of the car and into the daylight the inside walls were covered with thin film of brownish gunk. “No problem,” I told myself as I reached for my carboy brush. Nope. Didn’t even phase it. After looking out on YouTube I found PBW. I ordered the PBW along with a CarboyCleaner and followed the directions in the video. “Holy Crap!” The gunk literally peeled itself off the walls of the carboy and was floating to the surface by the time I got the CarboyCleaner device out of the package and into the bottle. Between the PBW and the CarboyCleaner, I got myself two spankin’ clean carboys and 5 gallons of homemade Baca Noir wine in its second racking. This stuff really works!

This amazing stuff will put the sparkle back into your glass! I’ve added a tablespoon to my dishwasher soap cups, and this stuff is stripping the discoloration out of my dishwasher, cleaning the coffee/tea stains off cups, and it takes the haze off glass. I’ve handwashed the coffee carafe with this, too, and it looks like new.
I use a one gallon bucket, filled with super hot water and a tablespoon of PBW, then I soak glass pieces in it, for a few hours/overnight, for tough residue.
I’m thinking about cleaning the car windows with it, too.

This is the same class of cleaner as OxiClean and One Step, but is the strongest version available. This will remove the stubbornest deposits on your brewing equipment simply by soaking and wiping down the surfaces. I use OxiClean Free (non-perfumed) for general purpose cleaning, and save the PBW for the tough stuff.
