I got it delivered today around 1:00 and went out to the surf around 4:30. No luck until about 7:00, I ended up hooking up onto a 30lb striped bass, 39 inches long and took me about 10 min to bring and land it in on the beach…for the whole 10 min the rod held very good and was very responsive to every move the fish did….for the price I’d gotta give it 5 stars, no doubt about it.

Not bad for the price. Landed a black tip shark in Florida with ease. If your unsure of your surf fishing career, start with one of these and see if you like it, before spending a couple hundred on a fancy rod. I don’t surf fish much so this is all I will ever need.

Have two 12 footers, mated with inexpensive Shakespeare Alpha170 reels and 20lb test cajun line, for surf fishing off Florida’s Treasure Coast. Perfect rod for tossing out rigs on 4-6oz sinkers and sticking in a rod holder, for pompano, whiting, and small shark.
Just got the 9 footer, mated with a cheap Shimano 4000 size FX spinning reel and 14 lb test cajun line, for triple hook rigs for sand perch and Pompana and whiting.
They do the job and more. MUCH better than any $80 and under surf rod (to do better, you will have to spend 100 bucks plus for Star, Penn, etc). Not a precision rod you want to toss plugs with, it’s a rod holder surf rod.
They sit in the sand spikes, and I cast jigs with a much more expensive 9 foot rod and reel.
Great value, and they last!
