This review is from: KastKing Royale Low Profile Baitcasting Fishing Reel Super Smooth Baitcaster with Oversized Handle Good Match For Any Baitcasting Rod (Sports) The KastKing Royale baitcasting reel is one heck of a bargain, STOP OVERPAYING FOR YOUR FISHING EQUIPEMENT NOW! This reel is super light weight and sleek and can be used in fresh or salt water. With a gear ratio of 6.3:1 and 11+1 ball bearings you cannot beat the price tag or the quality of this reel. The drag is super smooth and the castability is unlike any other baitcasting reel I’ve ever used. I have yet to have issues with “backlash” from this reel when casting which I attribute to the reliable magnetic brake system, with a fully adjustable 10 level magnetic cast control!!! If you’re looking for an affordable baitcaster, I highly recommend the KastKing Royale! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? | Comment Reply 9 of 11 people found the following review helpful Superb Baitcasting Reel, March 28, 2015 By Matt Morgan – This review is from: KastKing Royale Low Profile Baitcasting Fishing Reel Super Smooth Baitcaster with Oversized Handle Good Match For Any Baitcasting Rod (Misc.) I love fishing and my reel type of choice is spinning reels, though I have used baitcasting reels. Baitcasting reels have benefits and drawbacks when compared to spinning reels, the biggest drawback being backlash or “rat’s nest” when casting. KastKing is a fairly new arrival on the scene and this baitcaster, KastKing’s Royale, is the first one I have used where I have been able to almost completely avoid backlashes once I got used to casting with it. This is a small but very attractive reel, about the size of a tennis ball (not counting the handle) and a deep, rich shade of red with black, chrome and nickel trim. It is very lightweight though it is quite solid. In fiddling with the reel I have found no signs of inferior build or assembly – everything is very tight and fits together correctly. Out of the box the drag is set very low so it feels loose but this is a setting, not a build issue. In operation this is a very smooth and quiet reel. When cranking with no load (meaning, right out of the box) the reel is not perfectly silent but there is very low noise, which to me is important. With 11 ball-bearings this reel cranks very smoothly and easily. The drag is also very even and does not feel the least bit rough. The star drag control is easy to tighten and loosen and works exactly like it is supposed to work. One of the biggest problems with baitcasting reels is the tendency to get backlashes when casting, particularly for those who are not used to this type of reel. On the first few casts I had the same problem with this reel, and admittedly it was largely my fault. Many baitcasting reels use a magnet system for cutting down the possibility of backlashes by slowing down the spool when the line gets reduced tension from the feed. This baitcaster is different and uses an adjustable friction setting which applies steady pressure to the spool, much like the disk brakes in an automobile. It takes some adjustment and fine tuning – when too lax then backlashes occur and when too tight the cast distance is reduced. Set just right, though, and you can strike a good balance between casting distance and backlash occurrence. I have it set just right for myself now, so that I can cast without worrying much about backlashes and can get the distance to my satisfaction. What I had forgotten is that baitcasters allow for better cast accuracy in most cases than can be achieved with spinning reels. I am a good spin caster but my accuracy is not perfect. With this baitcaster I have slightly worse accuracy but that is only because I have not worked with this kind of reel often enough to get really good with it yet (I have preferred spinning reels for years). Every cast gets me closer to the accuracy I want. That I can get fairly accurate casts with this reel, having had it for such a short time and having not used baitcasting reels in freshwater lakes in years says a lot about the difference between the two types of reels. I really appreciate the oversized handle which allows for faster retrieves. I have used reels with smaller handles and they require more effort and time to retrieve. I also appreciate the oscillating line mechanism that allows for even distribution of the line on the spool without having to guide it with my thumb (this mechanism is not a given and I have used several reels that do not have this). There is only one word of caution I offer. This reel comes in right-handed and left-handed models. The two are not interchangeable like with spinning reels, so make sure you get the right reel for your needs. That KastKing offers both is a sign of thoughtful consideration of their customers. KastKing might not be the most well-known name in fishing reels yet but they produce very nice reels that work very well. Their Royale baitcasting reel is a very nice reel with good features, it’s designed and assembled very well and it is easy to use. It also is very good at reducing backlash when properly adjusted. If you need a good baitcasting reel that won’t kill your budget, take a close look at this one – you won’t be disappointed. I was pleasantly surprised at, both, how smooth it casts and also how it retrieves. The 6.3:1 gear ratio allows me to take up a lot of line fast when needed. It really does have a very light weight to it and pairs nicely with my KastKing Rod. In my video review, I show a closer look at this reel and also show it being used on the water. Again, after about 5 minutes, you’ll see me throwing it without any major issues. The low profile this reel has, allows for a comfortable grip during retrieve. The star drag (11 lbs stopping power) has more than enough stopping power for the fish I target and it’s easy to adjust when fighting a fish. The handles, with slightly over-sized grips, come with padded foam which I find help to wick away moisture from my hands when they are wet or sweaty. Overall, this is a great baitcasting reel. I could see this being a good starter unit for someone wanting to learn OR for someone who’s already seasoned and just looking to try an affordable reel. My son (17 yrs old) is actually learning on this reel for his first attempt at bait casting. I received a product sample so that I could both test and evaluate the product. Should I come across any other findings (both good or bad), I’ll be sure to update this review. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? | Comments (3) Reply Leave a comment Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
