Kettler is a German company that I’m told makes the best tables on the market, and this is surely an impressive design. The heavy duty blue top is very attractive and has a durable finish, and the best feature of all is that this unit folds up to a compact 25″ for storage and the dual caster system allows it to roll freely until you need to lock them in place with the provided pedal locks. You get a true bounce and the net system is very sturdy as well. Also has a built in cradle for storing your paddles. Where Kettler falls down is with their assembly instructions….they are horrible. I was told to expect about a 2 hour assembly time with the help of another adult. 4-6-8 hours is more like it if you have some mechanical ability and don’t have any problem decoding Kettler’s cryptic “step by step” instruction. I was also told the assembly would arrive “80%” complete. hahahahahahaha gag whock choke hahahahahaha This Top Star is actually a one man assembly until you get to the point where you need to mount the first side onto its sliding leg mounts (read instructions closely and “click” before mounting) and then you’ll need help flipping the second side over from its crate to assemble the legs. Each side weighs close to 100lbs and they are very awkward to handle so make sure you have some beef on your team before attempting to put this thing together. The marketing material says that “all tools are supplied” but thats not entirely true either. You will need a hammer (yes, a hammer), a 1/2″ wrench and socket set, and a workable understanding of the metric system. The plastic corner braces that hold the shipping carton together are throw aways, they are not used in the assembly although they look as they might be. Go to KettlerUSA’s website and read the pdf instruction manual before buying to get a glimpse of what you are in for. All in all its a happy purchase, its looks cant be beaten and it folds nicely and up out of the way in the garage. Kettler supplies NO extra parts, so keep track cause these parts are NOT replaceable at Ace Hardware, trust me…. and spares are 10 days to 2 weeks. A 5 star product that loses a point for degree of difficulty and lackluster support. NOTES AFTER ONE WEEK: OK, forget what I just said, this thing is a huge design disaster. The corners are attached to flimsy slide mounts that allow you to fold the table, they are subject to failure….massive failure and I now have two corners of the table that are being held together by Gorilla Glue and Liquid Nails. DEAR KETTLER, you cannot hold this mdf tabletop together with these small 3/4″ screws and no internal threads. This thing SUCKS! I’d send it back but the dealer advised me I’m stuck with it. Anybody looking at this table beware there are a number of issues with the design that will shorten the life of the table if you intend to store it in the folded position after play time. What a nightmare. Derated to 2.5 stars. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? | Comment (1) Reply 24 of 27 people found the following review helpful Superb, July 7, 2013 By Troy D. Hoffland (Chandler, AZ United States) – Verified Purchase(What’s this?) This review is from: Kettler Top Star XL Outdoor Table Tennis Table (Sports) If you enjoy playing Ping Pong or Table Tennis, whichever you call it, this is an excellent table! It will meet, if not exceed your expectations, which it should for the cost. It’s list price is $1000, but I waited til I found it on Amazon for $750. We’ve had it for one month, I have 2 young boys (7), and we have a ball playing it & they are getting better & better, so I know we will have many years probably decades of fun. I’m sure through their middle & high school years their friends & they will use it constantly. When I think of that & having the kids at our home & that many years, the cost is really not bad. The construction of the table is superb!I can see it lasting, easily for years! It took me about 3.5 hours to assemble it myself, but I did have a friend help me lift the two table pieces into place. There was no possible way to do that part alone. It took 3.5-4 hrs from unpacking it to checking that I had every piece needed to putting on the net. I purchased this one because I’ve seen other tables with what seemed to be cheap wheels break. These wheels seem to be excellent, but time will tell. I’ve read that the table is difficult to assemble, I disagree…IT IS time consuming for sure, BUT if you don’t want the frame to become loose, then you need to take your time & do it correctly! You get what you pay for & you get the type of assembly you want based on the time & effort you put into it! Make sure you have time to do it right & you will enjoy it! Don’t assume you’ll do it in under 3 hours! Last thing & very very important!!!I did not have a metric ratchet set, so I was using two adjustable wrenches to tighten everything, one of which was a locking wrench. It would have been so much easier to have a metric ratchet set…BUT WHAT THEY DID NOT LIST in the instructions anywhere or tell you about anywhere is that they included 2 tools in the bag that contains the net that are for tightening every bolt!!!! They are 2 metric tools & I wish I had known about them, BUT I set the net bag aside because I knew it would be the last thing to attach! I did use the tools included to double check & tighten every bolt!SO make sure you check the bag that holds the net for those 2 tools!!! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? | Comments (3) Reply 10 of 11 people found the following review helpful Kettler is tops, April 18, 2010 By John (San Antonio, TX) – We received a Kettler Topstar XL weatherproof table as a Christmas present about 4 or 5 years ago. Yes, the assembly was a bit daunting, but the quality is superb. It has functioned perfectly since we got it and all three of my kids enjoy table tennis. We fold it up and wheel it into our garage when we aren’t using it. The plastic thingies that hold the net tight have dried out after 4 years of storing in a Texas garage with no A/C, but parts are available through the Kettler website. We have worn out our set of Panda paddles. I would highly recommend the quality, finish and engineering of this table. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? | Comment Reply Leave a comment Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
