This is a very inexpensive yarn (when compared to other wool yarns of similar yardage) that is great for certain projects. For example, it felts easily, so anything along that category is good. I’ve also seen some nice cabled scarves knitted from this as well…most likely due to its dense nature.
However, this is hardly your all-purpose, go-to wool. For one thing, it’s very thin. I can’t believe they can get away with calling this worsted. I have DK yarn that is as thick or thicker than Fisherman’s Wool. The other detractor is that it’s very rough and thready. If you roll the yarn in your fingers, you can just about feel every single thread in the ply. I used this to try and knit up some warm indoor socks, only to find that stepping in them was painful and left little horizontal and vertical marks on the soles of my feet. And it’s very, very rough. I had to use a yarn guide soon after I started to knit because it rubbed the top of my index finger raw. I would not recommend using for a garment that lays against the skin. Lastly, it’s messy. I don’t expect my wool to be pristine, but the amount of junk I pulled from one skein was ridiculous. Enough hay to line a hamster cage, various black hairs (not sheep…goat maybe?), and even a couple of pieces that I couldn’t identify…one of them metal.
The price is great, but it’s not worth the limitations, especially when there are other yarn companies (Cascade, Berroco, Plymouth, etc…) that offer a much better product at reasonable prices as well.

It’s only fair to note that I’ve not worked with 100% wool that wasn’t superwash before. I ordered two skeins of oatmeal to make my husband a cabled hat and scarf set. What I received was much thinner than what I would expect of something described as “bulky”- it felt thinner than typical worsted. I decided to double it since I had 2 skeins and I used size 11 needles- (I knit on the tight side.) The result was the very dense, warm product I desired. Working with it felt rougher than I was used to but not prohibitive. The finished piece is softer than I thought it would be but not too soft. There have been lots of compliments on the finished product. It looks good on my husband and the color matched his khaki pants well. For the money, the skeins are very large. I think this would be a good choice for a masculine project and it took the cables well. I was expecting it to be thicker.

I found this yarn at our local craft store a while back and when I was ready to purchase some for a sweater, I was disappointed to find out they no longer carried it. This is a soft wool that knits up beautifully. The ply thickness is consistent and doesn’t tend to split while you are working with it like some yarns do. Highly recommend this wool. Excellent quality for a reasonable price.
