I purchased Lion Brand Yarn – Wool-Ease to finish up a sweater I had been working on, as I had run out of yarn. Crafters know that getting a different dye lot can ruin your project. It was a pleasant surprise that one year and a different dye lot later I received an exact match for the original yarn I had purchased.
Wool-Ease is a #4 worsted weight, although I find it to knit as a light worsted (not sport). The quality of all of Lion Brand yarns is consistently high. Wool-Ease washes and wears beautifully. A blend of 80% acrylic and 20% wool gives the luxurious feel of wool with the wear-ability and wash-ability of acrylic – and NO itchiness.
I thoroughly recommend this yarn for any apparel project (or otherwise) that you may be considering.
One thing to keep in mind – however – due to the high acrylic content of this yarn it does not block as well as wool. I would avoid doing any heavy lacework/openwork type patterns, as they won’t want to block open. It cables beautifully and produces a lovely textured stitch as well. Wonderful pattern definition.

I have made two aran knit sweaters so far using Lion Brand Wool-Ease yarn and both have turn out well. Most of the people I knit for want a garment that is comfortable and machine washable. Most wool yarns are itchy and have to be handwashed. Wool-ease has enough wool to be warm but can still be machine washed and I don’t get complaints about comfort. The colors I have used so far are Denim blue and Cilantro green. I am presently working on a sweater using the Mushroom brown color and it is looking really great.

I purchased this yarn in a brown blend to make myself a sweater in 2001. Ten years later (2011), except for some pilling of the fibers, that sweater is still in excellent shape.
I am so impressed with the handling and life of this yarn, that when I decided to make myself another sweater, I went straight to the Wool-Ease.
The yarn is easy to knit with, and can be machine washed and dried – according to the manufacturer. Personally, I hand wash and air dry all my good sweaters to maintain their shape.
I find my finished sweater to be very warm and comfy. I highly recommend this yarn for knitters (or crocheters) who want to create warm, easy care garments.
