2 weeks in the primary. racked over, then a week in the secondary. no need for clarifying, so a week was enough. no cold crash either.. its a stout!
here’s the “magic” part: i dry-skillet toasted 10oz of dried, unsweetened coconut. added this to one entire bottle of vodka*, in a large mason jar. after a week of this extract making, i kegged the beer, added the vodka, and 5 teaspoons of good (real) vanilla extract. BOOM! the amounts of adjuncts were perfect. This has been on keg for only 7 days, yet it is getting better each day. carbed at 9psi it is not quite ready but is very close. In another week, it will be everything i wanted.. coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and almond-joyous deliciousness. another great kit from Jaspers.
*none of the coconut, vanilla or vodka is part of the kit, and must be purchased seperately. the yeild from a 1/5 of vodka was about 2 cups max, due to the absorption qualities of the dry coconut.

This kit is just a prime example of the fresh ingredients Jasper’s puts into their well thought out kit. If you like a rich stout with an unfathomly dynamic flavor, this is your drink. I will be purchasing this kit several more times in the future and it may be a permanent fixture on one of my taps. Sessionable, silky and satisfying. When the instructions say you only need 5 weeks to prime drinkability, they were right. I brewed this before moving to kegs, two weeks in the fermenter and 3 in the bottle had this beer perfect.
I will add one note of caution, this kit has a large amount of specialty grains to steep. Because of this, the muslin bag you steep them in, may stretch and allow some oats and grains through. I would suggest you strain between the pot and the fermentation vessel to prevent any floaters in your bottles.

Shipped quick. Arrives well boxed. These kits are well done, there are even small labels for the caps. I ordered 4 and just got four more. I only have one thing that might put some off (but dont let it) the liquid malt is not in a can. It comes in a bag. Kind of different. As for the beer I have one more week to wait and its time to drink. I had a early test bottle and the taste was a good solid flavor not to green(bitter). It is not a mamby pamby stout. Its solid, heavy with a good head. I have already recommended it to other home brewers.
Update: After a few more days of conditioning and a 2 days in the frig, this is one of the best Oatmeal kits I’ve tasted. Solid dark flavors with that oaty thickness. Great head, even some reverse cascading. If that the right term. Highly recommended.
