This review is from: Narex Leather 16 Pocket Tool Roll for Carving Tools or Chisels (Misc.)
I read the reviews and was pretty sure that the Narex chisels as purchased won’t fit in the Narex tool roll. That was okay because I intended to use the tool roll mainly for Pfeil gouges/chisels. The tool roll is of good quality suede leather with double stitching around the outside and single stitching between slots. Double stitching between the slots would have provided the extra space so the initial part of the roll would roll without needing to leave empty slots. The tool roll technically can hold 16 chisels. Two of the slots are designed for inserting the chisel blade. These slots will hold up to a 20 mm (approx. ¾”) width blade. The remaining 14 slots are designed for handles up to 1.25” in diameter. If all of the tool handles are 1.25” in diameter the tool roll won’t roll, so the practical upper tool handle diameter is 1” or less. I reduced the Narex Premium 4 pc set of chisels handle diameters to less than 1.25” so they fit in the Narex roll. Those 4 chisels and 8 Pfeil gouges fit nicely in the Narex tool roll, that’s about the practical capacity for the tool roll.

For the past 4 years I have been a night class (mature!) student at Palomar College in San Marcos, CA, taking classes in their CFT (Cabinetry + Furniture Technology ) department. I carry tools back and forth to class all the time The Narex chisels were recommended by the faculty instructors as a “Best Buy/Best Value” option (if you don’t want to /cant afford to spend the big bucks for the L-N / Blue Spruce Toolworks offerings) – the steel is good and they hold a great edge.I have a big set of Narex cabinet chisels, and also a set of their paring chisels. I had tried canvas style tool rolls for my lathe tools, but they really did not sand up to the abuse. So for the chisels I wanted leather. As I have just spent the best part of a weekend re-sharpening chisels+ plane irons ready for class, those edges are worth protecting………. So – was happy to find the Narex roll on Amazon last week – I bought my first one last week and received it Friday (usual lightning ship – Viva Prime!). As others have commented, the Narex tool roll is definitely in the same category as their tools – very good quality at about half the price (or less) of anything remotely comparable. – liked it so much I have just ordered a second one. I think that says it all.

I bought the Narex 6 piece mortise chisel set and it fits perfectly. At first it was a little challenging to slide some of the handles into the slots, but they seem to fit exactly. Since I was only storing the set of six in the roll, I spaced them out so I’m not using the space terribly efficiently but I don’t really have to. Since the mortise chisels are fairly long, I have them alternating up and down, which does effectively halve the number of pockets, but again, space isn’t really a concern yet. The roll is wide enough so that the entire chisel is protected, with nothing spilling over the top.
The suede is very soft and feels great, but as other reviewers have mentioned it is a bit of a magnet for saw dust.
It does exactly what I wanted and needed it to, while looking and feeling great.
