This review is from: Needle Felting Animals: Create Sculpted Animals Using Needle-Felting Techniques (DVD)
I’ve just begun exploring this craft, and watched both discs in this set recently. Sharon Costello provides a detailed presentation of armature building, core fiber preparation, felting body parts and assembly of both a rabbit (no armature) and a hound dog. The goat shown on the DVD cover isn’t addressed at all, and the giraffe is only briefly discussed (how assembly differs between hound and giraffe). Good presentation of eye felting, but no discussion of how to use glass eyes as an option. She discusses various wool fiber options but when demonstrating detail felting (mouth, nose, eye) she suggests use of short, fine wool fibers without offering brand/type information. I’ve not seen anything in her website or others where short-fine fibers are offered. She may mean that batt fibers are better….but this isn’t clear. OR she may mean that you need to hand-process fibers (pull them apart and tear them to smaller lengths). Again, she isn’t clear. Her rabbit model looks quite holey as she doesn’t address how to finish needling for a smooth surface. All in all, I learned a lot from this DVD set, but she isn’t offering me models I aspire to imitate. I mostly found things I’d want to figure out ways to improve and make MORE realistic.
