These are natural, uncoated bamboo. I love them. There is no varnish or resin impregnation that makes the more expensive needles feel and behave like plastic. These needles become more and more polished as they are used. The tips sometimes are not shaped to my preference, but are easily reshaped with sandpaper or an emery board. I protect my needles with Howard Feed and Wax, which is beeswax based, but they will acquire a nice finish from natural body oils with repeated use. I have these 14″ needles and also the shorter, 8″ version. I have marked the ball ends with US size numbers on one set and color coded the other set by painting the ball ends with different colors of nail polish. I love to display them in a small flower vase when they are not stuck in a project. Although I own some of the more expensive brands, these are my go-to needles for all of my projects that require single point needles.

I decided to get bamboo needles since the metal ones I have keep getting tiny paint flakes on my projects. I liked that I could get many sizes for a nice price and the quality is also good (not like expensive needles, but decent for the price).
I have been knitting a few items with the larger needles, so far I have liked using them. They are sturdy and smooth, the yarn has not caught on anything. I haven’t used the smaller needles yet, they seem fragile, though I have heard bamboo is strong (I am more of a 7mm needle project person, the smallest I have used is 5mm, but now I can be more adventurous. Purchasing this set was worth it for the amount of larger needles alone).
Each needle is marked on the end with the size, though it is hard to read on the smaller needles. Putting colorful rubber-bands on the ends can help with organization.
