I bought this for an animal drawing class at CSUF and was happy to find that it’s a wonderful tool for quick gesture and detail drawing alike. It has quickly become one of my favorite tools to use. The point of the brush allows for beautiful thin lines and the brush’s body creates a gradual transition from thin to thick which really give your line work some life. It’s fun to use with a water brush. You can really get a wonderful range of shading that way. There are no English instructions but all you need to know is to take out the red ring and squeeze gently until the ink flows through. Don’t squeeze too hard or the ink will run everywhere when you try to use it. Other than that, have fun and let the masterpieces ensue. Enjoy!

As far as the pen’s function goes, it writes fantastically. I would definitely recommend this as a beginning pen for those looking for a starter’s brush pen. Great line versatility, easy control of the ink flow. The pen itself is larger than it looks (with the cap, it’s seven inches long) and the ink chamber/pen body has ridges that make it a little odd to hold. The only downside to it is that the instructions are all in Japanese, as I don’t think it’s an official Pentel brush pen. However, when you take it out of the package it’ll have a red washer around the middle preventing the ink flow to the brush. To remove it, leave the cap on and gently twist the clear grip away from the ink chamber. If done correctly it should unscrew with little resistance. *Be very careful not to squeeze the black body of the pen, or ink will splatter everywhere.* After you remove the washer you can screw the pen back together and gently squeeze the chamber until ink flows to the brush. It drips out of you squeeze too hard, though, so be careful. Other than that, it’s a great pen.
