The hardest part was getting the stupid cases open, other than that, these pens write beautifully. They do put down lots of ink, just so you know. I would suggest buying ink and syringe and filling these up yourself. There are other reviewers that have mentioned that before. The pens themselves are amazing, and with even better inks, I can only imagine what you can do. Enjoy these, I know I do.

I have the entire set plus several of the smaller sized. These pens are so easy to maintain and they write VERY nicely. The ink flow is about as good as it gets. I have only started trying to use dip pens, but I have yet to find the consistent ink flow with dips. On the other hand, I seem to alway reach for the smooth ink flow of the Parellel Pen, by Pilot. One of the neatest and seemingly unique features is the ability to quickly blend inks by “kissing” the two different pens (with different color inks) together and getting a nice gradient of colors going on. I just LOVE it. NOTE: I use these pens to help students I work with (Aspergers and fine motor skill challenged people) to help their writing skills. The LOVE to create calligraphy and in the process — they learn to write better in their daily life-walks. AND…given the simplicity of use, the kids/people LOVE them. 5 star +++

This review is from: Pilot Parallel Calligraphy Pen Set, 1.5 mm, 2.4 mm, 3.8 mm and 6 mm with Bonus Ink Cartridge (P9005SET) (Office Product)
I am fairly new to calligraphy, and that being the case, I’m buying and trying a lot of different pens – dip, ink, markers. This is far and away the best pen I’ve found for what I’m currently doing — practicing, practicing and practicing some more. The ink flows very smoothly and basically – on command. I have a Rotrig pen with different nibs and it’s always a bit clogged or won’t flow without some coaxing. Once it does, I love it, but the little bit of hassle every time I try to use it makes me reach for this pilot pen instead. (It could be me – maybe there’s something more I need to do other than wash water through the pen with the reservoir that comes with it – but having done everything I could to get the ink to flow more freely – it still doesn’t.) ENTER the Pilot Parallel pen. Well, it was a revelation to not have to waste time (and pen strokes) to make any sort of mark. I’ve had this pen for about two months and I really like it. I’ve been able to progress a lot more quickly than I would have if I had to fight with a stingy writing instrument. I also like the versatility of being able to play with the angles of the nib. I can get a lot of different width strokes with this pen and my ‘newbie’ calligraphy looks pretty darn good. I still like a dip pen the best – but since I practice on the go or in between whatever else I have going on – I like the ease and the authentic results. The 1.5 mm is my favorite – and I have all the nibs that Pilot offers. But – since I’m a beginner – I like my mistakes to be small.
