   My six year old son and I did this project as a Mother’s Day gift for his Mom. Once we pulled the pieces out of the box and made the necessary cuts with his handheld saw, he decided he wanted to stain it. We picked out a dark cherry stain at a big box home improvement store in our town. After sanding the pieces, he then stained them all, with the exception of the heart and star drawer knobs. He painted those with acrylic paint, red for the heart and green for the star (his Mother’s favorite color). Assembly went relatively well. We found that the nails went in easier and didn’t bend if we drilled a little into the adjoining piece so that the nail was given a better guide. After assembly, he sprayed a high gloss clear coat on it all. Turned out really nice and his Mom loves it.

   Bought this as a birthday present for my 8 year old daughter. She’s been wanting to do projects with me like her older brother and I thought this would be a good starter. She did 90% of the construction and had a blast doing it. As with life, it didn’t turn out 100% like the picture but the experience is what she enjoyed most. She’s very proud of her work and that’s worth every penny to me.

   The delivery was pretty quick but the packaging was pretty smashed. Not enough to damage any of the materials inside. Also some of the pre-cut lines were a little off so it was hard to square up the box. Overall, it turned out nice.
