This Model Kit was first introduced by Revell Models of Venice California back in 1957. For it’s time? it was a great model. It still is a Great Model. Despite the fact, that, Revell Company has been bought and sold many, many times since this model was produced. The Molds which form the model are rather old. But not in any way lacking in Detail. The parts are now made in Germany. And come to the buyer sealed in clear plastic bags. So I cannot understand why the previous reviewer had some loose parts problems. Revell started packing their models in plastic bags. To prevent people from opening the box and removing parts they needed for a ship model they had bought but had broken the parts of their Revell Model of the same ship. The fact that, this model has been around since 1957. Is a testiment to it’s popularity with the public. It is really a beginners kit. And has always been ment to be this way. But even this fact does not detract from it’s 55 Year reighn as one of their most popular kits. Of this type. Revell has not released any new kits of this type in a lot of years. Because the interest in the young people. Has shifted to computer games and the like. Rigging any ship is a challenge when your new to ship building. But there are techniques used and learned by modelers over the years which makjes this process. “Easyer” When the time is taken to build the model. The reward is tremendous for the builder. You have to keep in mind that the molds for this ship were made “Back in the day” when they had to be hand carved. Not Laser cut like todays models. I personally have built this model many, many times since I first got into model ship building in 1960. And I just purchased her again. Because keeping in mind? All the above?….It is an enjoyable kit to build. Do NOT even attempt to build a larger model ship. If you have problems with this offering. As you will be dissapointed. People just need to slow down and relax and “Study” the instructions fully. And you will turn out a fine model. One to be “Proud of” The fact that the kit has been around for 55 years…..Speaks enough for the kit it’self and it’s popularity.

Historically, this kit has been around a long time. I bought it here new, however, the mfg.’s mold stamp is dated 1958! It’s difficult for me to translate the given scale of any kit, (in this case 1:110), to what the actual size will be once assembled. This kit turned out to be smaller than I like, (about 13″ with bowsprit), however despite quite a bit of mold flash, it turned out very nice. I’d recommend it to anyone.

Well-designed model and accurate (based on publications I’ve seen). Comes complete with sails, crew figures, rigging thread and detailed instructions; supply glue and paints. Plastic parts are well-formed and require minimal trimming before assembly. Painting the model improves its appearance. Molded plastic deadeyes and blocks allow placement of detailed rigging. A long-handled pair of bent-tip tweezers facilitates rigging placement. A great-looking finished project.
